City gets good news on safety

— Trinity property owners could possibly see some relief on a break on fire insurance based on a recent study by the state.

Fire Chief Keith Johnson told the City Council on Thursday that the ISO has recently evaluated the city, which he said had not been done since the late 1990s.

He said that according to representatives of the organization, the fire protection rating has improved, which “theoretically means rates should go down.”

Johnson said he was not given an actual number, but said that efforts of the city and the Fire Department were responsible for the change.

“We’ve upgraded our water supply and fire equipment, and they have the information, so it’s under review,” he said. “Once done, that will be sent to state Fire Marshal. It could take a month or two to get some word.”

ISO ratings for fire protection run from 1 to 10, with 1 being the best; Johnson said the last rating the city had was a 7.
