The Goodrich City Council discussed short-term vacation rentals and approved official apparel in May’s regular meeting. The Tuesday meeting was the result of Thursday’s date rescheduled because of electricity outage with storms in the area.

A potential buyer of property within the city limits contacted the City of Goodrich to inquire about setting up an account similar to Airbnb for a short-term rental. According to City Secretary Felicia Garrett, the potential buyer did not say she had a specific location in mind, instead claiming she was looking to buy property.

Goodrich Mayor Kelly Nelson said the item needed to be tabled without further information. The potential buyer did not attend the meeting.

“She just said she was looking to purchase some property in the Goodrich city limits and before she made the final sale, she wanted to know, because she wanted to turn it into an Airbnb,” Garrett said. “She knew with all the issues that have been going on with people and their rental houses, (she wanted to know) what kind of stipulations you guys would have.”

Nelson said plans would need to be handed to the city’s utility management to make sure Goodrich could handle what is proposed. Nelson suggested the woman have information available while attending a city council meeting or emailing information and attending via phone.

The council also discussed ordering apparel for the city council and secretary. Nelson explained that the apparel would be shirts worn when the council or secretary is out in an official capacity.

Nelson also discussed name tags, which did not gain much support from some members. The item was approved, with the stipulation, Nelson said, that “we aren’t going to spend a whole lot of money on it.”

“If I have to meet somebody, I’m going to dress up,” Goodrich Mayor Pro-tem Bobby Wright said. “I want to look nice, but I would prefer to have Goodrich (on the apparel) and that I am representing this city. When you go out somewhere, you are representing Goodrich.”
