COLMESNEIL – Colmesneil ISD school board met in regular session last Tuesday evening and had a packed agenda in front of them.

The first item on the agenda was a consideration for reorganization of the school board, and this was tabled until the next board meeting. The next item was the approval of the sale of 43 feet of property to Vance Cowart. The property in question is over on Benton Circle adjacent to the tennis courts. After hearing from Cowart, and his assurance that he will pay for all expenses regarding the transaction, the sale was approved. Cowart intends to put rental properties on the land.

Two representatives from E3 Construction out of the Dallas/Fort Worth area were on hand to address the board and give an overview of the work they have done with several school districts, namely PNG, Burkeville, and Kountze. Every district has chimed in with positive reviews, and Superintendent Sharon Tule is leaning toward recommending them to go forward with their various construction needs within the district.

The board also approved the purchase of a new lawnmower. The board heard a recommendation from superintendent Tule of a mower at Southern Tractor which costs just under $13K. Board members quickly approved the mower purchase. Next up was the approval of a missed days waiver regarding January 15, 16 and April 10, due to severe weather events. This was approved in short order, meaning that the district does not have to make up for 300 hours of lost instruction time due to school cancellations.

The district accepted the resignations and/or retirement of five faculty members, one in particular being CISD’s athletic director/head football coach George Taylor. The district put together a hiring committee consisting of staff and community members to interview six applicants for the AD job, and all of the reports were in favor of one candidate, Brian G. Ramsey. Ramsey was given glowing favorable reviews by the entire committee, and the board decided to hire him, and he started on Monday at CISD.

Ramsey comes to Bulldog Country from Bruceville-Eddy ISD, which is part of Waco ISD.

End of year activities were reviewed by High School Principal Stephanie Smith. Students are getting ready for the end of the school year, with High School graduation slated for May 24 at 6 p.m. Baccalaureate services this year are at Katy Baptist Church May 19, at 6 p.m.
