POINT BLANK — After spending time surveying roads, the Point Blank City Council upped its street repair budget by $50,000.

Mayor Mark Wood said that at the May 13 meeting, he informed council members that there is about $950,000 in damaged roads, and numerous homeowners seeking assistance with the removal of sand that was deposited because of storms.

Wood also said that the council discussed that the Texas Department of Emergency Management is accumulating information to file with FEMA.

“As of May 13, the county has reached the trigger amount of having more than $100,000 of damage, and an aggregate of $53 million in the affected area,” Wood said. “This will become a federal event, so now we’re gathering the information to let FEMA do their thing.”

Wood said that most of the damage from recent storms damage is in Precinct 4 in the northern part of county, particularly a major washout on Hidden Cove Road.

In other business, the council approved the construction of a pickleball court on the slab next to City Hall.
