COLDSPRING — The Coldspring City Council discuss plans on moving forward after a week of torrential rains had cause damage around the city.

Mayor John Benestante said that at the May 6 meeting, he reported that flooding had caused some damage at the city sewer plant, washing down a fence and chlorinator Additionally, a transformer went down in the storms; however, the backup generator kicked in as it was supposed to, and the plant is on regular power now.

Benestante said that he and city personnel will run all the streets and assess them for damage.

In other business, the council:

•agreed to take over the community center, and once the attorneys look over the paperwork the council will start looking into grants for renovation and perhaps building a new center;

•approved an agreement with San Jacinto County to be part of its permit system;

•discussed retail growth, as the city has convenience stores going in several areas;

•approved the application for the Juneteenth parade;

•held a second reading of a sewer ordinance, which changes fees for commercial taps and setting a flat fee for residential taps; and

•discussed accepting a 20-foot right of way at the end of Perry Drive.
