As the nation celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week, Georgia-Pacific employees tipped their hard hats and thanked area educators for sharing their time and talents to strengthen the minds and lives of their students. To show their appreciation, Georgia-Pacific presented all teachers and staff at Corrigan-Camden High School with a canvas tote bag filled with Georgia-Pacific tissue and towel products.
“Teachers are changing the world one student at a time,” Yana Ogletree, Georgia-Pacific Public & Government Affairs Manager, said. “After all, behind most successful people there is a great teacher. Today we celebrate our teachers and thank them for their patience, determination, enthusiasm and leadership.”
Teacher Appreciation Day dates back to the early 1950s when First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt approached Congress about creating a special day of recognition for educators. However, the first National Teacher Appreciation Day was held in 1984. Today we officially recognize educators with a week-long observance each May.
