TYLER COUNTY – For the second time in less than a month, Tyler County, and other areas in the region, were affected by severe weather, which resulted in flooding, property damages and people needing to be rescued.
A line of severe thunderstorms came through the East Texas region throughout Sunday night, passing to the Gulf Coast. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for most of the county, as well as northern Jasper County.
Some of the areas in the county that experienced flash flooding included Warren; Hillister; Spurger; Woodville; Colmesneil and Chester.
Neighboring Polk County received severe, widespread flooding, with a mandatory evacuation ordered for residents along the Trinity River and below the Lake Livingston Dam due to the high waters.
Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) reported that game wardens had been deployed to assist in rescue operations in Polk County, with nearly 20 people rescued, as game wardens assisted county emergency management officials. Near Warren, at the Seventh-Day Adventist church, game wardens assisted in the rescue of a stranded person.
