Last Friday, the Woodville Eagles/Lady Eagles tennis teams competed at the Lumberton High School Tournament in Beaumont. The boys’ doubles team of Ethan Shird and Kenneth Rigsby earned third place.
Stirling Darragh placed third in boys singles and Claire Tucker placed first in girls singles. The mixed doubles team of Quentyn Haley and Clair Lohman made it to the semi-finals and the girls doubles team of Ruby Shirley and Avery Gazzaway also made it to the semi finals as well. The girls doubles team of Kacey Myers and Sophie Hill advanced to the quarter finals.
Head Coach Sergio Ramos and assistant coach Austin Coker will lead the Eagles as they travel to Central Heights on Friday, April 26 to compete in the 21-AAA District Meet. Other schools participating are Central Heights, Central, Diboll, Newton, Hemphill, PCA, and Huntington. Athletes advancing to regional will compete May 10-11 at Texas A&M Consolidated High School in Bryan-College Station.
Eagles, Lady Eagles victorious in District games
The Eagle and Lady Eagles baseball and softball teams are coming off big victories over Newton in District play. Head coach Woody McCelland led Woodville to a 17-0 victory, while the Lady Eagles run-ruled the purple Eagles 21-4 on Senior Night.
Seniors competing for the last time were shortstop Mallory Dunn, Center Fielder Jade McQueen, second baseman Ke’Tanah Thompson, trainer Ebony Lacey, and trainer Hailey McClure. Both games ended early due to the run rule. The Eagles will return to the diamond on Friday, April 26 to face the Huntington Red Devils at home.
