COLDSPRING — The Coldspring City Council discussed the legalities of taking ownership of the Coldspring Community Center, which now is in the hands of the center’s board of directors.

Mayor John Benestante said that at the April 1 regular meeting, the council was informed that the directors have the authority to deed the center to the city.

Once that happens, the city would appoint a board to run the center, as well as begin the process to apply for grants for renovation or expansion.

The next step is to have the two entities come together to make sure everyone knows their roles, Benestante said.

In other business, the council:

•held a second reading for a new sewer tap ordinance, which will be posted for public review followed by a public hearing. The city is planning to move to a flat fee of $20 for regular households;

•further discussed working with the San Jacinto County permitting office and creating either a memorandum of understanding or a resolution to that effect;

•reviewed drawings for the renovation of the former Boles shopping center by a new owner;

•took no action on a 20-foot right of way on Perry Drive;

•approved an application for the annual Coldspring Area Business and Merchants Association car show, set for May 25; and

•approved offering employees health coverage.
