The Woodville Lady Eagles lost to Central Heights Friday night despite a furious comeback at the end.
The Lady Blue Devils opened the scoring with a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior Jade McQueen answered in the bottom of the first with a solo homerun to right field to close the gap to 4-1. Central Heights would tack on two more runs in the third inning.
Kamron Runnels was hit by a pitch with one out in the fourth inning. Allie Ronaghan singled on a line drive to left field advancing Runnels to second base.
Ke’Tanah Thompson moved Runnels and Ronaghan up to third and second respectively on a hard ground ball to second base. Kamron scored on Heidi Spurlock’s RBI sacrifice to first base.
The Lady Blue Devils would advance their lead to 9-2 until two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mallory Dunn walked on four pitches. McQueen doubled to right field with a full count scoring Dunn.
Kendall Standley doubled to left field to bring McQueen home. Runnels smoked a line drive single to the pitcher to put Standley on third base. On the final play, Ronaghan lined out to the pitcher on a judgment call to end the game.
The Lady Eagles scored four runs on six hits and a walk. Mcqueen went 2-4 with two doubles.
Standley closed out the game with two-thirds of a scoreless inning with a strikeout. Woodville will return to action on Friday at Central High School in Pollok and Senior Night Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Hennigan Park.
