COLDSPRING — The Coldspring Chamber of Commerce celebrated not only the county’s top business but set up the next round of scholarships offered to the students of Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD.
The chamber held its annual Best of San Jacinto County Banquet on Saturday, rescheduled from February due to flooding issue. Partnering with the San Jacinto News-Times, the group polled the county for the best businesses and services — 90 different categories in all.
In addition to naming the best of the best, the chamber took the opportunity to raise funds for scholarships; Treasurer Christina Mallet said that last year, they raised $9,500 last year, and this year hoped to raise $15,000.
Mallet said the chamber has changed its donation scheme, moving away from silent auctions which she said were not very productive, and instead urging the community to donate through the chamber’s new tiered system.
Board President Jeri Bailey said the chamber is proud of its meaningful impact on the community, and it intends to grow that impact in the coming year.
Some of the items the chamber is looking for in the future is to continue its quarterly luncheons, focusing on improving communications, including its website and social media posts, as well as starting a chamber ambassador program called Chamber Champions.
