An Onalaska man was jailed for assault with a deadly weapon after an argument between roommates.
On Sunday, Onalaska police were dispatched to 145 Myers Street in reference to an assault.
Upon arrival, law enforcement met with both the suspect and victim. The victim stated that during an argument, David Alan Claycomb, 66, of Onalaska, produced a knife. The victim stated it was at this point Claycomb proceeded toward him and cut him with the knife on his stomach.
After he was detained, Claycomb stated he and the victim were arguing and the stabbing victim attacked him. Claycomb attempted to show police a mark on his face near his left eye, yet police were unable to see an injury. Stating he pulled a knife due to how big the victim was, Claycomb said he felt the need to protect himself.
The stabbing victim stated he and Claycomb were roommates living together in what police describe as a small travel trailer, and he did not want to file charges. Police were able to locate the knife used during the assault, but did not find blood. Claycomb admitted to wiping the blade before police arrived.
Police also spoke to an on-scene witness, who stated she did not see the assault, but heard the commotion and attempted to clean up the mess in the house after the altercation ended. Due to conflicting statements and a lack of evidence supporting the claim of self-defense, Claycomb was placed into custody and booked into the Polk County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
