Both Trinity and Groveton volunteer fire departments responded to fires in the previous week.

On Sunday, Groveton firefighters battled a fire that broke out on Jones Street, originally called in as a brush fire, that left a mobile home and an RV in ruins.

Fire Chief Glenn Hammond said the fire probably was intentionally set, but no suspects are known at this time, and the department is trying to determine who owns the property.

He said the department responded with an engine and two brush trucks, as well as eight firefighters, but the home and RV were a total loss by that time.

The blaze was contained in an hour, he said.

Later that night, Trinity Fire & Rescue responded to a truck fire on Highway 94.

Assistant Fire Chief Keith Johnson said at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday night, about a mile west of Glendale, the department sent 14 firefighters and one truck. When they arrived, the vehicle was fully involved.

The driver, who was not identified, told firefighters that he smelled smoke, pulled over to the side and then saw flames under the hood. He attempted to use his extinguisher, but could not put out the fire.

The blaze was extinguished, and no injuries were reported. A cause was not determined.
