Deputies arrest one on drug charges

A Pennsylvania man was arrest and almost 3 pounds of methamphetamines were seized during a Dec. 1 traffic stop near Shepherd.

Reports indicate that on Dec. 1, a deputy with the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit was on patrol on US 59 in the Shepherd area conducted a traffic stop.

The deputy requested and received consent to search the vehicle, and two other deputies, including K-9 Duna arrived. During the search, deputies found three large, clear plastic bags containing an off-white powdery substance hidden in the vehicle.

Duna indicated a positive response for the presence of controlled substances, which later field-tested as positive for methamphetamines. The combined weight of the bags was 2.7 pounds.

The driver, Juan Alonzo from Pennsylvania, was booked into the San Jacinto County Jail where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a first-degree felony.
