Trinity and Walker County firefighters rescued a man who fell into the Trinity River Friday night at the river bridge on Highway 19.

Assistant Fire Chief Keith Johnson said that they received the call at about 7 p.m. Friday and responded with a rescue truck and 12 firefighters. Ventura EMS from Trinity and Walker County EMS sent ambulances and emergency personnel as well.

Johnson said that firefighters Greg Conner, Joey Paguga and Allen Ramsey arrived on scene first and pulled an elderly male out of the water. Later, a second elderly male at the scene began experiencing chest pains and was assisted with his medication by EMS personnel.

The two victims were not identified.

Johnson said the first victim fell because the bank collapsed when he got close to the water.

The Trinity VFD Polaris side-by-side was called to the scene and removed both patients to the boat ramp to be transported to Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Johnson said the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
