Several Tyler County athletes received post-season accolades from the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) with the organization’s Academic All-State teams.

The organization recognizes senior high school athletes who excel both academically and in athletics. According to the THSCA website, “We are the principal advocate and leadership organization for Texas high school coaches.” The organization has served Texas student athletes and coaches since 1930, when it was established as the “Texas High School Football Coaches Association,” but has grown from its initial 28 members to more than 26,000, which makes it the largest organization of its kind.

It also recognizes athletes from all UIL sanctioned sports in the state of Texas. The list for Academic All-State football and volleyball teams were named Monday, and four Tyler County athletes were named to the football team. Brandon Hand, of Colmesneil, received an honorable mention and Jarrod Yeagin, Zach Tanton and Sam Spurlock, all of Warren High School, were named to the Second Team.

In volleyball, Chester’s Kinsley Barnes was named to the Academic All-State First Team and Colmesneil Lady Dog Bernice Pittman received an honorable mention award.
