Last Thursday, Warren senior Makayla Baker signed to play softball for the Bossier Parish Cavaliers. Baker will receive a full-ride scholarship, and thanked her coaches and parents for encouraging her in her endeavors. Before introducing the young athlete to the full room of supporters, WISD Athletic Director Austin Smithey said that only 2% of high school athletes go on to play college ball, and said “she’s one of the two-percenters.” Smithey added it was the first time in a while that the district has had a softball signing.
