Lady Jackets end season; Jackets advance in playoffs

The Lady Jacket volleyball team ended their season with a tough loss to the number two state ranked Round Top Carmine Lady Cubs. The Lady Jackets fell early in the first set 13-25, but was able to come back and win the second set 25-20. In the third set they stayed point for point until the Lady Cubs pulled ahead and ultimately won 17-25.

The Lady Jackets lost any momentum they had going into the fourth set, and lost 12-25.

The Lady Jackets finished the year with a 28-10 record. With only one varsity Senior, they have several players returning next season and hope to make a deep playoff run.

‘Jackets advance in playoffs

The Yellowjacket football team are Bi-District Champs, defeating the Medina Bobcats. This marks the first playoff win since 2015 for the Yellowjackets.

Defense was key in the 36-20 win.

Previously, the Bobcats averaged 60 points a game but the Yellowjackets held them to less than 200 offensive yards and 20 points.

Jesse Bittick had a big night, leading offensively and defensively with 14 carries for 108 yards with two touchdowns, 10 tackles, and one fumble recovery. Keighen Green had 9 carries for 100 yards with one touchdown and three catches for 18 yards.

Jaxon Gay had two carries for 19 yards with one touchdown, one interception, and eight tackles. Kevron Green ended with nine carries for 61 yards with one touchdown, and two tackles. Zach Redwine had one catch for 35 yards and five tackles.

Quarterback, Trayce Knox went 10 for 13 passing, 64 yards, three tackles, and one pass broken up defensively. Cutter Lowe held the line defensively and had four tackles.

Freshman, Kasen Citrano had two catches for 11 yards, four tackles, and a pass broken up. PJ Purvis and Waylon Sturrock each had two tackles. The Yellowjackets will face a tough Jonesboro team on Thursday Nov. 23, 5 p.m. at Allen Academy in Bryan.
