November is Small Business Month and Yvonne L. King, president of the Livingston-Polk County Chamber of Commerce, is urging everyone to remember their local community.
“This Thanksgiving season, we invite you to extend your gratitude beyond the dinner table to the heart of your community. November is not just about turkey and pumpkin pie. It’s also Small Business Month. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our neighborhoods, offering unique products, personalized service and a sense of community that big box stores simply can’t replicate,” King said.
“Small businesses are the cornerstones of our local economies and they have supported us in countless ways over the years. Whether it’s your favorite family-owned restaurant, the boutique clothing shop that always has the perfect gift, or the local craft store that fosters creativity, these businesses play a vital role in our lives. Now, it’s our turn to support them,” she said.
King offered the following suggestions for ways to show your appreciation and support for small businesses this Thanksgiving season and throughout Small Business Month:
Shop local: Make a conscious effort to buy from local businesses. Whether you’re shopping for holiday gifts or just picking up essentials, consider making a local store your first stop.
Dine out: When planning your Thanksgiving feast or dining experiences throughout the month, choose to dine at locally owned restaurants and cafes.
Spread the word: Share your positive experiences with small businesses on social media, leave glowing reviews, and tell your friends and family about the hidden gems you’ve discovered.
Attend events: Many small businesses host special events and promotions during Small Business Month. Participate in these events to show your support.
Gift local: Consider giving gift cards or products from local businesses as thoughtful presents this holiday season.
Volunteer and collaborate: Offer your skills, time or resources to help small businesses thrive. Collaborate on projects or events that can benefit the community.
Stay informed: Keep an eye out for Small Business Saturday, an annual shopping holiday that encourages shoppers to buy from local businesses. Mark your calendar for this year’s date and participate.
“As we give thanks for the many blessings in our lives, let’s also give thanks for the small businesses that make our communities vibrant and unique. Your support during this Thanksgiving season and Small Business Month means the world to them and it keeps our local economies strong,” King said.
Upcoming chamber activities include the following:
Business After Hours at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Country Place Senior Living located at 1860 N. Washington in Livingston. In addition to the opportunity to network, there will be refreshments, door prizes and a $500 jackpot.
Women Interested in Networking Opportunities will have the opportunity to make a Christmas craft on Nov. 16 at the chamber office located at 1001 U.S. 59 Loop North in Livingston. The women will network at 5:30 p.m. and then have their craft program at 6 p.m. The cost is $25. Frauds and scams presented by FNB Fraud Shield will be the program for the next Lunch and Learn at noon Nov. 28 at the chamber office. A free lunch is included. RSVP to the chamber office at 936-327-4929 by Nov. 21.
