Around 8:30 a.m. last Wednesday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to Roy O. Martin’s Corrigan wood processing plant.
The call was for a worker who had fallen from an overhead walkway and was not breathing.
Law enforcement from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched, along with Allegiance EMS, to the scene. Upon arrival, first responders found where the contract worker had fallen from an overhead cat walkway.
It was determined no criminal acts or foul play had occurred. OSHA was contacted and the investigation was turned over to their investigative division. Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Judge Robert Johnson ordered an inquest and the worker was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Jefferson County for an autopsy.
The Corrigan OSB released the following statement following the incident:
“It is with our deepest sympathy and prayers that we at Corrigan O.S.B., L.L.C. share news of the tragic loss of a construction employee performing contracted work at the Corrigan O.S.B., L.L.C. construction site in Polk County, Texas on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. We will take this time to remember the family and friends of the deceased, the construction contractor, and all those who have and continue to contribute to the project.
“In addition, we want to recognize the tireless and professional work of our facility nurses, our first responders on-site, all emergency medical services personnel, and the Polk County Sheriff’s deputies who responded to the call. Your service and compassion were exemplary. Once we return to the tasks at hand, let us continue our progress safely and with due care for those around us.”
