OLDSPRING — There were smiles all around as the San Jacinto County Fair & Rodeo came to a close on Saturday.
Smiles because of success, smiles because of community coming together, and smiles of the contestants and especially the winners.
Fair Board President Tommy Hues said that based on the turnout, the fair was a success, with quite a few good shows and very good animals.
Hues said that while the entries were about the same as last year, the judges this year have said that the entries were some of the best they have seen.
“There was a lot of turnout, but that always happens because the community always supports the kids,” he said.
Layla Howton, 15, a sophomore at Shepherd High School, was crowned the 2023 Fair & Rodeo Queen on Saturday.
