COLDSPRING — The Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Board of Trustees approved a resolution allowing the campuses to hire chaplains as volunteers to take the place of counselors.

The approval came during the Sept. 25 meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Bryan Taulton said that the vote was in line with a new Texas law, which went into effect Sept. 1, and required a board vote within six months of that date.

Chaplains were added as part of school safety and security measures, providing restorative care and mental health support.

Taulton said that as with anyone working with the district, chaplains will be vetted.

In other business, the board:

•approved a $45,000 bid from Dean Construction for roof repairs;

•tabled agreement with Children’s Safe Harbor and San Jacinto County Child Welfare Board for the continued use of a district facility. The groups have been using the building for 20 years, but there was no agreement on file;

•approved changes to the technology acceptable use policy;

•approved changes as Public Information Act regarding non-business days; and

•approved nominees Collin Lilly and Crystal Dominy for the San Jacinto County Appraisal District.
