Avid readers continue time travel

I am including a group of toga clad residents from the Roman Era during my visit to the Time Travel week at Shepherd Library. This Summer program was a huge hit with the children and most of them also appeared in togas, some looked suspiciously like their mothers’ tablecloth or drapes.

The program included stories from Roman times and food which was served with wine (grape juice) in stemmed glasses. The Old West also was visited.

•I visited Woodland Park Nursing Home in Shepherd last week. Everything is running normally after the COVID crisis, and the building has had remodeling done which makes it looked even better than before.

I talked with one of the residents, Bobby, who told me how he loved being there. He said he had lived there for about 8 months, and it was the best place he had lived in. He loved the food and the care he was given and said he liked to watch the birds in the entry way, which are housed in a very large, caged area with nests and branches.

Thank you, Rebecca Harrell, for showing me around, and to Office Manager Angie, who has been there for 23 years, and to Carlie, Sonceria, Sarah, Francis, Adrin and Bobby for being so hospitable.

Residents enjoy lots of activities with 24-hour skilled nursing providing long term care. Woodland Park Nursing Home is located on the frontage road of Highway 59 at 101 Woodland Park in Shepherd and can be reached at (936) 628-3388.

•Friends of Hopewell held a back-to-school event last week. The guest speaker was Dr. Bryan Taulton, Superintendent of COCISD. Vendors were acknowledged and games and face painting were organized by Nicole Carter.

Tiffany Parker presided over the occasion and kids were given backpacks, school supplies, socks, tennis shoes and yummy hotdogs and tacos. Dental screening and photo IDs were also donated.

The Coldspring Chamber Board was represented by President Barbara Justice and Calandra Johnson. Alice Patterson helped Calandra with the volunteering.

•The future Impact Emergency Crisis Center is receiving donations of goods and money from many sources. This week I was happy to present a check from The Center for Spiritual Living Houston to Brenda Myers with a check towards the cost of new electrical wiring.
