From Enterprise Staff

Nearly 60 teams are registered to participate in the 4th annual State Championship Smoke in the Pines Barbecue Cookoff Friday and Saturday at Pedigo Park in Livingston hosted by the Livingston-Polk County Chamber of Commerce.

Affiliated with the International Barbecue Cookers Association (IBCA), the entry fee for IBCA meats is $200 and the entry fee for the ancillaries such as cook’s choice and beans is $25 each. There will be payouts for first through sixth IBCA meats, first through third for cook’s choice and first for beans. If 75 or more teams participate, the payout will be $7,500.

Additional activities in conjunction with the event are the Smokin’ Hot Auto and Bike Show, kids barbecue, cornhole tournament and vendor booths. Registration for the Smokin’ Hot Auto and Bike Show is from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the awards starting at 2 p.m. The entry fee for the auto and bike show is $30 if you pre-register and $40 if you register the day of the show. Additional vehicles may be entered for $10 apiece.

For those participating in the “Kids Q,” the kids barbecue cookoff, the first 30 to register and pay will be able to cook. The $25 entry fee includes a barbecue pit, an apron, charcoal and two pork chops. A cook’s meeting is slated for 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with turn in at 10 a.m. and awards being presented at 5 p.m.

Entry in the cornhole tournament is $50 per team and everyone is asked to bring your own partner.

Approximately 20 vendor booths are expected to be at the two-day event, so everyone can come out and do some shopping.
