Upcoming dance will kick off annual youth rodeo

The Polk County Youth Rodeo Association will host its annual Rodeo Kickoff Dance from 7-10 p.m. June 30 at the Barney Wiggins Memorial Arena located at 101 Fair St. in Livingston. Admission is free and there will be family fun, music and an open concession stand.

The Rodeo Kickoff Dance signals the start of the 62nd annual Polk County Youth Rodeo which is slated for July 5-8 this year. The events start nightly at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10 apiece with students 12 years old and younger entering for free.

Nightly events include chute dogging, breakaway roping, mugging ribbon roping, tiedown roping, cloverleaf, straightaway barrels, pole bending, goat tying, goat ribbon pulling and team roping.

Mutton bustin’ will be held on July 5-7 for ages six and under and 50 pounds and under, although it is limited to the first 15 per night. There will also be local straightaways for ages six and under from 7-10 p.m. on July 5-7. Signups for mutton bustin’ and local straightaways is fro, 4:30-5:30 p.m. July 5-7. Additional events on July 7-8 include bareback riding, saddle bronc and bull riding.

There is $7,500 in added money this year with 48 event buckles. Additionally, saddle certificates will be awarded to the all-around high point girl and boy.

There will be a hospitality room available July 5-7.
