Mickey's House to hold open house
Trinity Standard -

By Sheran Casey

Billed as a Community Enhancement Facility, the Malcom and Sam Barnes Foundation re-invested in the old Community Health Center in downtown Trinity. It has been appropriately named Mickey's House, for Malcom (Mickey) Barnes, wife of Dr. Sam Barnes, honoring her dedicated and extensive long-standing civic work in the community. The elegantly appointed venue was borne out of a need for community improvement and to meet the needs of local organizations with quality, suitable facilities. It also provided for a focal point in rehabilitating and repurposing downtown properties. Mickey's House provides an appropriate venue for small to medium sized meetings (up to 50 people), as well as small weddings, parties, receptions, reunions, funerals, showers, wakes and rehearsal dinners. Anyone booking the meeting room has access to kitchen facilities and equipment. The Barnes Foundation also continues fulfilling their philanthropic mission by including offices provided to local nonprofit organizations that work for community improvement. The Foundation Board reviews the organizations' requests for office space based upon their contributions to the community and any improvement value that organization offers. Mickey's House continues to grow in community enhancement and services. Currently all the offices are filled with organizations to include The American Red Cross, Brown Hearing Center, Trinity County Crime Stoppers, Family Life Enrichment and Play Therapy, SAAFE House, DK's Permanent Makeup, God's Redeeming Love, Int'l, Math Tutoring, Trinity Historical Society, Community Resource Manager and Our Inspiration, as well as, Head to Toe Salon. Administrators welcome the public to stop by to look at these facilities and to see the contributions it is making to the Trinity community. The goal of enhancing the community has been and will continue to be met, honoring a woman who also truly enhanced her hometown – Malcom (Mickey) Barnes. The Grand Opening of Mickey's House was five years ago. At that time, only a small portion of the building had been renovated and was housing non-profits. Many organizations have come and gone, but the offices are now filled with organizations that are a good fit for our community. At this point, additional buildings and offices are being explored, with the idea in mind always to reach out and enrich our community. Come see the changes in the building and, visit with the different organizations. Find out how these organizations are affecting and aiding the betterment of our community. Find out how you can be involved in making a difference in the lives of people. Light refreshments will be served and, everyone is welcome and requested to stop in and visit. There is also going to be silent auction to raise money for Mickey's House. There will be some really nice items that you will want to bid on. The silent auction will end at 3:30 PM so winners can be notified and pay and pick up their items. Everyone is invited to Open House for Mickey's House on Saturday, February 17 from 2 PM to 4 PM. Come and visit with the office occupants. See how the plan has come to fruition.
