TRINITY – Blood donors who come forward during an Aug. 31 blood drive at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church will receive a pint of ice cream from The Blood Center East Texas.
The drive is set from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church located at 401 Prospect Drive (Highway 19) in Trinity.
The center has designated August as Blue Bell Month and all those who donate or attempt to donate at the drive to be hosted by the Knight of Columbus at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church will be given a gift certificate for a free pint of Blue Bell ice cream.
“It’s a great way to help save up to three lives and walk out with a sweet treat from the little creamery in Brenham,” said Mary Frances Bradford, director of the blood center.
The gift certificates can be redeemed at local grocery stores and donors also will receive a free T-shirt.
The Blood Center East Texas is the blood center and primary supplier of blood products to eight hospitals and healthcare facilities in six East Texas counties surrounding Lufkin and Nacogdoches.
The center is asking donors to join the Commit for Life program which requires them to donate once every three months, allow the blood center to contact them and encourage others to Commit for Life.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. Those who are 16, weigh at least 122 pounds and are in good general health also may donate with their parent’s consent.
The donation process will take about one hour.
