County population total climbs
Trinity Standard - August 2008
TRINITY – While Trinity County as a whole showed a modest growth in 2007, the latest estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the City of Trinity experienced a slight dip in population.
According to the latest projections posted by the bureau, as of July 1, 2007, Trinity County had a total of 14,168 residents while the city’s population was estimated at 2,735.
The July 1, 2007, estimate is the latest available from the bureau. Each year the federal bureau issues population estimates for cities, counties, states and the nation as a whole. Figures for 2008 will not be available until next year.
The last actual census count occurred in 2000 and the next scheduled count will be for 2010.
According to the just released city estimates, the 2,735 listed for Trinity is down by four people -- or 0.14 percent – from the revised July 1, 2006 projection of 2,739. When the 2006 estimates were initially released last year, the census bureau listed the city’s total at 2,757.
The latest city figure, however, is up by 14 people (0.51%) from the 2000 census count of 2,721.
While the city’s estimated population dipped in 2007, the census bureau said Trinity County’s numbers were continuing to climb.
The July 1, 2007, estimate for the county was listed as 14,168, which was up by 47 (0.3%) from the revised 2006 figure of 14,121 people. Last year the census bureau projected the county’s population at 14,296.
The latest figure is up by 389 people (2.82%) from the 2000 census count of 13,779.
According to the census bureau, all of the county’s increase in population can be attributed to new people moving in from other areas.
Between July 1, 2006, and July 1, 2007, they listed 165 births in the county compared with 186 deaths, for a net loss in population of 21. During the same period, they said 67 people moved into the county including 16 from other countries and 51 from other areas of the U.S.
Migration also was credited for all of the county’s growth since 2000.
According to the census bureau, since 2000 there have been 1,187 births in the county and 1,446 death for a net loss of 259 people.
During that period, a total of 709 people are estimated to have moved into the county, including 118 from other countries and 591 from other parts of the U.S.
