Democrats file for positions in primary
San Jacinto News Times - December 2007

COLDSPRING – Eleven candidates have filed for eight positions on the Democratic county ballot during the first day of filing for the March 4, 2008 Primary Election.
Democratic candidates filing Monday, Dec. 3, include San Jacinto County Sheriff Lacy Rogers who is seeking re-election; Betty McKinzie Davis who is seeking re-election as San Jacinto County Tax Assessor-Collector; Laddie McAnally and Dale Smith are seeking the Democratic nomination for Pct. 1 commissioner and Thomas Bonds and James “Butch” Moody are seeking the Democratic nomination for Pct. 3 commissioner. In the race for constable, incumbent Verlon R. Powdrill is seeking re-election to Pct. 1. In Precinct 2 incumbent Jerry W. Everitt is opposed by Tom Yates on the Democratic ticket. Incumbent Kenneth C. Hammond has filed for re-election to Pct. 3 Constable and Alvin Wyatt has filed on the Democratic ticket for Pct. 4 Constable.
San Jacinto County Democratic Chairman Richard “Dick” Countiss said the last day to file for a place on the ballot is Jan. 2, 2008.
Those who are not registered to vote in the March 4 Primary Election have until Feb. 4, 2008 to do so.
San Jacinto County Republican Chairman Van Brookshire said no one had filed for a position on the Republican ballot as of Monday.
