Corrigan Bulldogs top Pirates 25-0
San Jacinto Newstimes , October 2007
SHEPHERD -- The Shepherd Pirates will start district play at home Friday night and will not have to face an undefeated team or a ranked area team. They will take on the Tarkington Longhorns that have an identical record of 0-5 pre-season record.
The Pirates fell to the Corrigan Bulldogs 25-0 this past Friday to push them to an 0-5 pre-season record. In spite of the 25 to zip score the Pirates took some positive steps to build on for this Friday nights opening game with Tarkington. They discovered that they had a quarterback and a running back that could share the rushing load, making it hard for a defense to load up to stop team rushing leader Chaz Caddie. QB Seth Keith rushed for 72 yards Friday night and when you combine that with Chaz Caddie’s 67 it give the Pirates a 139-yard rushing night for the combo.
Shepherd could never get into gear against Corrigan and the Bulldogs took advantage of Pirate turnovers consisting of 2 fumbles and 1 pass interception. Corrigan jumped to a quick lead in the 1st quarter on a 48-yard pass touchdown to make it 7-0. Later in the 1st quarter after a Pirate offensive stall the Bulldogs scored again from 5 yards out to make it 13-0. In the 2nd quarter once again Corrigan held the Pirate offense in check and punched in another score on a 3-yard run to make it 19-0 going into the half. Corrigan scored one more time on a 2-yard run in the 4th quarter to close out the scoring for the night and ended it with a 25-0 final score.
Overall the Pirate offense still managed to log 171 yard of total offense with Quarterback Keith going 6 for 12 for 34-yards. Michael Wetuski was on the receiving end of two of the passes for 22 yards, along with Keondre Shaw who caught 2, but only had 5 yards to show for his effort. Jordan Wood caught one pass for 7 yards to round out the receiver corps effort for the night. Shepherd’s Seth Keith put some excitement in the game on two kick-off returns running one back for 43 yards and another for 23 yards. On the defensive side of the ball Clint Riddle and Jessie Butler both had good nights for the Pirates.
