Former Coldspring student leads JUCO team to national championship

LUFKIN -- Former Coldspring High School standout and current Angelina College Lady Roadrunner Taylor Harper next fall will have a nice piece of jewelry to show off to her home town: A National Championship ring. Harper and her Lady Roadrunner teammates captured the NJCAA Division I softball national championship at the World Series held recently in St. George, Utah. The title is the first in Angelina College's 46-year history and marks the first time a Texas team has claimed the title since the tournament's inception in 1977. Harper had plenty to do with the team's success, leading the Lady Roadrunners in home runs in the regular season and launching a key long ball in the team's semifinal win over San Jacinto College. Harper returned home to learn she'd also made the Angelina College Dean's List for the Spring 2014 semester.
