Coldspring-San Jacinto Chamber of Commerce held their quarterly luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 30. This luncheon was rescheduled due to the hard freeze we had a few weeks ago. The guest speaker was Sherri Schell of our County Appraisal District. She gave us insight into the changes on property taxes and what this means for us. The meal was catered by Extra Mile Catering, who always produces the most delicious foods. It was held at the Coldspring Community Center. Also held on Jan. 30 citizens were able to meet the Republican candidates in the Primary Election. Citizens had an opportunity to ask questions and decide who they will vote for. Hosted by the Republican Women of San Jacinto County, this event was at the Coldspring Community Center across from the Courthouse. Newly renovated, this Center was the perfect place for the meetings and other events. To find out more about this event, go to republicanwomenofsjc. org/ or email RWofSJC@hotmail.com. The Best of San Jacinto awards will celebrate the winners on Feb. 24 in Jones Hall, Coldspring. The theme for this annual event will be "The Roaring Twenties," which sounds like a lively event is being planned! This Banquet honors those businesses and volunteers in our community who have benefited our county, stimulated growth or gave of their time and abilities to make life better for our community. Tickets are $25 each but if you have a group, you can seat six people for $125. A table for 12 will cost $250. The Chamber is seeking sponsors, who will be recognized on social media, the Chamber's web page and at the event by the MC. There will also be a Silent Auction, always a popular part of the proceedings, and donations for this are very welcome. Come and enjoy this special evening. Call the Chamber Office to order your tickets at 936- 653-2184. Are you a Chamber member? If your business is having a special event, a sale or celebration call me at 936-628-6397 with details, which I will include in this column. Shepherd Library is almost finished being renovated. It has a new roof, floor and inside it has been newly painted. The Librarian/ Administrator Helenmarie Johnson, will have her office near the front door. All that is needed now is the arrival of the new shelving and then the books can come out of storage. Hopefully I will be able to give you a date soon when the Library will hold a Grand Re-opening!
