COCISD to host 2nd annual Special Kids Field Day
Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School District (COCISD) is excited to announce the 2nd annual San Jacinto County Special Kids Field Day will be held at the Coldspring-Oakhurst High School gym and football field on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. The special day will kick-off with an opening ceremony at 9:15 a.m. on the football field. Events will run from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with an awards ceremony to start at approximately 11:15. A hotdog lunch will be provided afterward for parents, contestants and volunteers. Two groups of student athletes from five school districts will participate in the program this year: three year-olds through 5th grade, and 6th grade through 18-plus programs. The collaboration of five districts is unprecedented in San Jacinto County and includes New Waverly, Onalaska, Shepherd, Goodrich and COCISD. Student volunteers from Coldspring High School will assist with the day's activities, including athletes, National Honor Society members, cheerleaders, student council members, and AFJROTC cadets. Coaches, therapists, teachers, and instructional assistants from each district will also pitch in to make this a memorable day for everyone. It will be a great opportunity for parents and guardians across all five districts to meet other families with special needs students, cheer on athletes from the stands, and enjoy fun and fellowship with their kids and the people who help educate them. For more information, or to make a donation for the event, please contact COCISD Special Services Director Shannon Wallace at 936-653-1178.
