Campaign launched to raise money for COCISD teacher grant program

COLDSPRING — This spring the Coldspring- Oakhurst Education Foundation is launching its annual campaign to raise money that will provide funding to support the Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Teacher Grant Program. The COCISD Teacher Grant program provides educators with opportunities to enhance and enrich educational options for students and supports the creative, meaningful efforts of teachers. The Foundation has set a fundraising goal of $20,000 for its 2015 Annual Campaign. The COEF makes funds available to district educators and staff to create new and innovative educational programs that are not normally accommodated in the school's budget. In doing so it provides funds for creative, researchsupported proposals that foster exciting learning environments. These grants give teachers and staff the opportunity to design projects that cultivate student curiosity and challenge minds. "In today's world, classroom instruction is much more than reading, writing, and arithmetic," said COEF President Pat Clark. "Today's students are faced with a future filled with changes that we can not imagine. We must work to the best of our ability to provide them with tools to be successful in that ever-changing world." Funds raised for COISD Teacher Grants in 2014 provided students and teachers with financial support in a variety of ways. A couple of examples are: • tools and instructional support to build a robotics program in Street Elementary School; • tools for studying motion in science classes at Lincoln Junior High School; • instructional support for a reading/language arts program that begins in pre-kindergarten; • instructional materials as well as support for using technology in a secondary art program. A series of kick-off events will be taking place in our community throughout the spring. These events will bring together COEF Board members, volunteers, fundraisers, and residents who have participated in this growing effort in the past as well as individuals new to the experience. 100 percent of all funds collected during the campaign go toward the foundation's goal of enhancing and enriching educational opportunities for all the students of the Coldspring- Oakhurst CISD.
