County to honor state champions

COLDSPRING – An awards ceremony is scheduled this Saturday starting at noon on the San Jacinto County Courthouse steps to honor the area Coldspring State Champions 11-12 year old Dixie Boys State Champions. County Judge Fritz Faulkner will host the event and present a proclamation from the county in their honor. State Representative Jim McReynolds will be on hand to present a certifi cate from the State of Texas along with Sheriff Lacy Rogers who has donated the Dixie State Champion Certifi cate in frames for each individual player and coach of the team. Coldspring Mayor Pat Eversol will present a proclamation from the City of Coldspring.
The public is invited to attend and show support and appreciation for the young boys and their coaches. The Coldspring Dixie 11-12-yearold boys won the Dixie Majors Junior Division State Championship recently with a power offense scoring 32 runs in their fi rst three games. They stunned their fi rst three opponents by scoring 32 runs and only allowing seven runs. Opening three wins included Tri-City 8-1, Arp 13-5 and Oil Belt 11-1. Coldspring advanced to the winner’s bracket with a 3-0 record only to watch their fi rst victim Tri- City come back through the loser’s bracket and put a 4-1 loss on the crew from Coldspring, leaving three teams with one loss each, Tri-City, Coldspring and Oil Belt. Coldspring won the bi-district and Tri-City defeated Oil Belt 10-9. This set-up the championship game between Coldspring and Tri-City with the winner taking the trophy home. What turned out to be the best game of the tournament went down to the wire with the Coldspring team taking a hard fought 7-6 win to claim the state title.
