Woman guilty of drug possession

LIVINGSTON -- A 36-year-old Polk County woman was convicted Thursday on a state jail felony possession of controlled substance charge filed in connection with an attempt to bring methamphetamine into the Polk County Judicial Center. Ashley Renee Roach was given a mandatory probated jail term, ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service by 411th District Judge Kaycee Jones. During the trial, Polk County Assistant Criminal District Attorney Kari Allen presented evidence that on March 17, 2016, Roach entered the Polk County Judicial Center with a baggie containing methamphetamine concealed in the purse she was carrying. During a routine security screening, the methamphetamine was discovered by Polk County sheriff's deputy and court security officer Jessi Stanton. Following the jury's verdict, Polk County District Attorney Lee Hon commented, "It's probably not a good idea to bring meth into the courthouse."
