Two hurt in three-car crash near Goodrich

GOODRICH -- Traffic was blocked on U.S. 59 South and Loop 393 in Goodrich following a threevehicle accident that left two hospitalized Friday afternoon. According to initial reports from Texas Highway Patrol, the driver of a silver Chevy Cobalt, Timothy Heefner, 65, of Livingston, was attempting to merge into U.S. 59 from the south end of Loop 393 and failed to yield for the driver of a silver Nissan Altima, Monica Wiggins, 55, of Louisiana. Heefner's vehicle struck the passenger side of Wiggin's car, which was sent into the grass along the outside lane. The Cobalt continued to spinout in the middle of the highway and caused another collision with a purple Chevy Astro van, driven by Jose Juevas, 43, of Houston. Livingston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to help assist a male passenger out of Wiggin's car, who was later transported by ambulance to CHI St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in Livingston with undisclosed injuries. Firefighters also assisted Texas Highway Patrol in blocking traffic during investigation and cleanup. All three vehicles sustained significant damage and were transported by wrecker. Heefner, who also was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries, was reported to have been cited for failure to yield the right of way.
