Jury Sentences Man For Sexual Assault Of Child
By Lynda Jones
Kevin Hathorn, 30, of Kennard was sentenced by a Houston County jury to serve 16-1/2 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division for a sexual assault reported in June 2015. The jury determined Hathorn's punishment on Tuesday, Feb. 7. District Attorney Donna Kaspar said Hathorn pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a child, which is a second degree felony. The jury trial was for punishment only. Assistant District Attorney Roger White tried the case. "The jury heard evidence of other incidences of sexual abuse to the same victim, beginning with touching the child at 6 years of age and later sexually assaulting her about five times between the ages of 12 and 14," Kaspar said. Hathorn will be required to do complete half of the sentence before he is eligible for parole, and he must register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. "I think the judgment of the jury is fair and just, and I thank them for their important work in listening to and deciding this case," Kaspar said.
