Local businessman mourned

County residents are mourning the death of well-known businessman and community leader Horace Bayne Knox.
Knox passed away on Saturday, June 21 at the age of 88.
He was a graduate of Crockett High School and Baylor University. He served in the United States Marine Corps 1942-1945 and was awarded both the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars for heroism.
When he returned to Crockett in 1945 he began working for his father, Leo, at Knox Furniture, where he remained for more than six decades.
He served as the first president of the Crockett Jaycees, organized the building of the park swimming pool, promoted and ran the Fiddler's Festival and helped plan the first rodeo now hosted by the Crockett Lions Club.
Among other community service activities, for many years he was a member of the Crockett Lions Club and served on the Crockett Independent School District board of trustees.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 23.
