By Chris Edwards

MOSCOW – A masked man is being sought by Polk County authorities after he robbed the Valero convenience store in Moscow last Monday. Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the report about the incident, which occurred late Monday, June 26. According to initial reports, the masked suspect walked into the Big Ben's Valero convenience store, located on US Highway 59 in Moscow, brandished a firearm, and demanded that the clerk empty the cash register. The gunman walked away from the store with several miscellaneous items and an undisclosed amount of cash, according to a news release from PCSO. The clerk on duty was not injured in the course of the robbery. Deputies from PCSO, officers with the Corrigan Police Department, county constables, and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel were dispatched to Moscow and the surrounding vicinity. Although a search perimeter was established, efforts to locate the suspect, who reportedly fled on foot, were unsuccessful. The store clerk and detectives described the suspect as a white male, of medium height, and wearing a camouflage hoodie with a large jacket, and carried what appeared to be a .22-caliber rifle. This investigation is ongoing, and according to PCSO Detective Lee Rogers, there is no further information available at press time. Anyone with information as to the person (or persons) involved in this armed robbery are encouraged to contact Polk County Crime Stoppers at 936-327-STOP (7867) or Detective Rogers at 936-329-9024. Any information given through Crime Stoppers can be anonymous, and tips which lead to an arrest can earn cash rewards.
