Lady Dawgs come up short against Woodville in highly hyped game

It looked as though everything was going our way Friday night. The weather was cooperating and the Lady Dogs had a solid lead at the top of the sixth. Then, the "bats" broke loose for Woodville and when the dust settled at the end of the night, it was 8-4 in favor of Woodville. Both top ten-ranked teams squared off in an exciting, hyped game, which lived up to the hype and the billing. In the early part of the game saw both teams go scoreless. Corrigan sophomore pitcher Katy Burris and senior Lady Eagle pitcher Shelby Mixon went head to head and battled each other strong in the early innings. Woodville drew first blood during the top of the fourth inning with a run but the Lady Bulldogs answered back to take the lead over the Lady Eagles 2-1 after four innings. The score was 4-3 in favor of the Lady Dogs at the top of the sixth when Woodville's E. Sylestine stepped up and homered driving in two runs. The momentum held and Woodville never looked back. Lady Dogs Makenna Hughes and Paige Hooks each drove in two runs. Woodville had eight hits in the game. K Sylestine and S Mixon each collected multiple hits for Woodville.
