Nichols appointed to Sunset Commission

AUSTIN – Recently, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick appointed State Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) to serve his third term on the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission. "I am honored that Lt. Governor Patrick has appointed me again to serve on the Sunset Advisory Commission," said Nichols. "The work done by the Commission is essential for ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in our state's government." Nichols previously served on the Commission from 2009 to 2013 and then from 2015 to 2017. He also served as Vice Chairman. Other members selected for the Commission include: Sen. Brian Birdwell, who will serve as Chairman; Sen. Dawn Buckingham; Sen. Bob Hall; Sen. Kirk Watson, and Emily Pataki, board present of Pedernales Electric Cooperative, Inc., who will serve as the lieutenant governor's public member appointed to the commission. "An effective and efficient government is the hallmark of conservative leadership. Those principles have made Texas strong and I am confident that these appointees will work diligently to ensure that Texas state agencies continue to operate with efficiency and accountability to best serve the people of Texas." The Sunset Advisory Commission was created by the Texas Legislature in 1977 and is made up of members of the Legislature and two representatives of the public. Its purpose is to review the operation and efficiency of more than 130 state agencies, with each agency typically subject to review every 12 years.
